As per the India Meteorological Office (IMD), the past hottest night in Delhi was recorded on June 3, 2010, when the base temperature had taken off to 34.7 degrees Celsius.
An IMD official said the books of Delhi's benchmark Safdarjung observatory were broke down till 1969 to determine this record.
"With this, the base temperature in Delhi has arrived at a record-breaking high for the period of June. Delhi is on an 'orange' alert because of the predominant heatwave conditions," the authority added.
Temperatures in the city have stayed over 40 degrees Celsius since May 12. In these 36 days, the city recorded 16 days when the mercury came to or outperformed 45 degrees Celsius, as per IMD information.
Late on Wednesday, Delhi is probably going to encounter a duststorm or tempest or lightning with exceptionally light downpour, joined by breezy breezes arriving at paces of 40-50 kilometers each hour, the IMD gauge said.
